Couldn’t you?

You say that you don’t feel the same way. You even say that there is someone else occupying the space in your heart where I used to reside. You say that you can’t pretend anymore.

Couldn’t you?

I plead with you to reconsider. “Think about all of the good times” I respond when you relay our latest fights. You say you can’t remember.

Couldn’t you?

You’ve packed up your things. I trail you to your car holding your college sweatshirt like it’s a life preserver. You say you can’t stay any longer.

Couldn’t you?

Couldn’t you?
